Dino steps

Follow in the footsteps of the dinosaurs.

This trail takes you from Maidstone East through the town centre and along Ashford Road as you find Iggy, Spike and their friends.

This circular trail is about 8km and should take you 1 hour 50 minutes.

You will find 11 different pieces of artwork, including sculptures, displays and signs.

At the third stop you will get to go into Maidstone Museum to explore the vast array of dinosaurs. If you are completing the trail when the Museum is shut, you can spot the dinosaur in the window.

Travelling to the start

Maidstone East train station is well served by public transport.

The train station is served by SouthEastern on the London Victoria-Ashford line. Maidstone Barracks station is just 10 minutes walk away on the Medway Valley line (Strood-Tonbridge).

The station is close to the town centre which is served by numerous bus routes by Arriva. There is a bus stop just outside the station – served by 101, 155, X1 and X2.

What’s more, there is a large car park at the station and several more near by.

Maidstone Museum

A collection of different dinosaurs and dinosaur artifacts at Maidstone Museum, including T-Rex, Velociraptor and of course, Iggy. If the museum is shut, you can still view a dinosaur picture in the window at the main entrance.

Spike, or Little Iggy

A metal skeleton statue which can be found on the A20 (Ashford Road) near the junction with New Cut Road.

Although officially called ‘Spike’ he is more affectionately known as Little Iggy and was quickly adopted by the local community. He now even has his own Facebook page.
